Handy Travel Tips (courtesy of Pfizer Animal Health)
- Before you leave for your trip, visit Hunt Valley Animal Hosptial to address any travel concerns, refill necessary prescriptions (like CERENIA for motion sickness – see below) and make sure your pet is up to date on all vaccinations
- Plan for some extra stops during your trip. This gives you and your dog a chance to exercise and take a break.
- Many websites offer the names of pet-friendly hotels and restaurants. Make a list of such places before you head out for your trip.
- Bring along contact information for a local veterinarian where you are staying.
- Make sure that there is a place where your pet can stay or someone is able to pet-sit if there are times when you will be away from him/her while on vacation.
- If you are staying at someone’s home, make sure there are no potential problems (allergies, aggressive animals, etc.)
- If traveling by plane, check specific airline regulations and requirements.
- If your pet is not already microchipped, we highly recommend having a microchip implanted and registered before you leave for your trip!

Motion Sickness
Many dogs get car sick. This is something you should try to address before you get on the road! Cerenia is an effective product used for motion sickness in dogs. Using Cerenia is easy!
- CERENIA is given 2 hours before you leave for your trip
- Loosely wrap CERENIA in a small amount of food (deli meat, spreadable cheese, peanut butter); stay away from foods like hot dogs, sausage and pill pockets as they may delay the effect of CERENIA
- Do not feed your dog 1 hour before giving CERENIA
You can be assured that you are giving your dog a safe and effective medication for the prevention of vomiting due to motion sickness. Please visit www.CERENIA.com for more information and then call us at Hunt Valley Animal Hospital for more information regarding your pet’s travel and how to obtain the first FDA-approved medication to prevent vomiting due to motion sickness – CERENIA!
*Although Cerenia is not approved for use in cats, Hunt Valley Animal Hospital may advise you on prevention of motion sickness for your cat. Please call us today for more information at 410-527-0800.
